Kedarnath: A Spiritual and Scenic Marvel in the Himalayas

Kedarnath is a small town in the Garhwal Himalayas in the Indian state of Uttarakhand. It is mainly known as Kedarnath Temple, an Indian pilgrimage site which is one of the 12 Jyotirlingams (temples of Lord Shiva) in India. At 3,583 meters (11,755 ft) above sea level, this temple is one of the highest Hindu temples in the world.  Kedarnath is not only a popular pilgrimage site but also a great trekking destination with a magnificent Himalayan panorama. Kedarnath Temple is believed to have been built by the Pandavas during the Mahabharata period. The structure of this temple is amazing. It is made of large, heavy stones without cement or glue. The entrance to the temple is decorated with a magnificent statue of Nandi Bull, considered the bearer of Lord Shiva.  The main deity, the Shivalingam cone, is enshrined in the temple. Due to the winter weather conditions, the temple is only open for 6 months from April to November. Kedarnath is 16 km from Gaurikund, the nearest town. Trek through
